Well, it’s been about two weeks since the trade news. I have learned to accept it. And I think it will be fun when LG plays DB! It will generate interest and buzz the sport of basketball needs in Korea. And I can’t wait!
Lee Gwanhee has appeared in a couple of reality TV shows since then. I feel bad that he had to film them right after being traded. I gotta give him credit for being a trooper and a professional about it. I am pretty sure he was battling his own demons at that time. It takes internal strength to get through that.
I have only been able to watch The Manager, and I deemed it entertaining. A few takeaways I got from it:
1. Lee Gwanhee’s LG seasonal manager, Lee Chang Hak, was a hoot! He was sassy and honest, indicating a comfortable relationship he has with Gwanhee. When Gwanhee requested a massage, Chang Hak questioned why he needed one, considering he didn’t play much. Lol. I thought that was pretty funny.
2. Lee Chang Hak mentioned Lee Gwanhee was temperamental. I have not known Gwanhee very long, but I, too, observed him to be moody, based on my personal experiences, on and off the court. He can be gentle and have the sweetest and most welcoming smile, but he can be as equally aloof and reserved. He can be making jokes and teasing his teammates. The next minute, he’s scolding them and, at times, even blocking them on social media. He’s the team captain, right?!?!??!
3. Lee Gwanhee continued to show his sensitive side when he talked about his dog, Byul. When I first saw the previews, it was cringey that he had a dog bed and stuffed animals on his bed and that his daily routine would involve filling the dog water bowl. That’s a bit weird. What’s driving that? I have two dogs myself, and I know that we cry more for dogs than humans most of the time. Will I be the same way after they pass? But in a lot of ways, I’m glad he’s able to cry and be in touch with his feelings. It’s healthy, considering the stigma society has on men’s mental health are that you have to be strong and masculine all the time.
4. It was heartwarming to see Lee Gwanhee’s relationship with his now former teammates, Lee Seung Woo and Han Sanghyeok. It is comforting to know they had each other as a support system. I read somewhere that Gwanhee and Sanghyeok are close friends. They’re so the opposite! Lol. Sanghyeok is soooooooo sweeeett, and Gwanhee is definitely NOT swweeeet. Lol. But now, they’re all in separate teams. I hope they will maintain their friendship off the court but play their best against each other on the court.
5. And, oh! I don’t think I would trust my money with Lee Gwanhee. Lol.

Sunday, September 15, 2024 | Nara, Japan Sweat dripped all over me as my son and I stepped foot into the Nara Rohto Arena. I did not care at all how disheveled I looked, I was just excited to go in and watch a pre-season match between DB Promy of the Korean Basketball League and…
